Telephoto Lenses

Telephoto Lenses

The type of telephoto lens you want depends on the type of photos you want to develop. There are different lens sizes for different film qualities and the proper picture relies on a direct correlation between the two. For example, if you want high-quality outdoor and wildlife photos, a camera using 35mm film would work well with a 400 mm telephoto lens. The biggest differences about a telephoto lens is that is designed with a longer focal length and typically the optical center is placed on the outside of the lens instead of the inside. Essentially, a telephoto lens will make all of your subjects appear magnified and the perspective of each photo appears more genuine.

Telephoto Lens Design

Varying lenses have different focal lengths, and as these lengths grow longer, you begin to reach the basic design of a telephoto lens. However, just because a camera has extreme focal length, does not necessitate a proper telephoto lens. There is a specific structure to which this type of lens must adhere in order for it to be classified as a telephoto. Basically, a group of two groups of lenses, the back and the front, compile the inner workings of this lens. The group toward the front of the lens has a positive focus and has a shorter focal length than the overall outcome of the lens. The rays that go through this first group with a positive focus combine with the lenses in the rear group and read them conversely, with a negative focus. These elements combine to create a lens that is physically shorter and more efficient that a long-focus lens.

Cheap Telephoto Lenses

The process of finding a telephoto lens that is both high quality and inexpensive can be a daunting task. Prices range from less than $100 to nearly $1000, depending on the company and type of lens that you are purchasing. The best ways to find a cheap lens is to explore the internet for gently used lenses that are older models, but still offer a like-new condition. Online auction sites and discount stores have many different types of telephoto lenses, but make sure you have thoroughly researched the product and seller before you decide to buy.

Telephoto camera lenses afford the opportunity to bring distant objects into better focus. These lenses are great for long-distance shots and can create a great depth so perspectives appear unprocessed. Shop around before deciding on the right telephoto lens, and always check consumer reviews of the products you browse.
