Studio Sets & Props

Studio Backgrounds

Photo Studios can have a wide variety of backgrounds with which to create pictures. Depending on the size and clientele of the studio, backgrounds can differ from generic colors to lush scenery and everything before, beyond and between. A carousel background can be used for a family studio or an intense city lights background for something more sophisticated. The more sophisticated the studio and photographer, the more the backgrounds are artsy and trendy. Sometimes, they can be very simple and plain to not draw any attention away from the subject being photographed. Also in recent times with modern technology, the background has come to be nothing but a green screen. This green screen allows the photographer choose any background tangible on an 8.5” by 11” sheet of paper to be used as a background to further satisfy the taste of the clientele.

Studio Props

Props make great additions to photographs. Sometimes, it is the props that are to be the main focus of the photograph, and any people may be there just to compliment them, such as in advertising photos. Props can really make all the difference in the message to be conveyed to the onlooker. A messy comfortable bed with silky bedding can enhance the sex appeal of a woman to the observer. Props can also be as simple as a teddy bear or a stool on which a child can sit and look absolutely precious. Props, when properly used, and photographed at the right angle, can set a photo above all the rest, and distinguish the photographer as remarkable.

Studio Sets

Studio sets contain everything that is needed to make a professional photograph what it is. The lights, the camera, the wind, the temperature, and the selection of models, props and background can all be controlled to produce nothing less than the best. As opposed to shooting photos on location, where the photographer can only control so much, a studio acts as a photographer’s sacred temple. Studios can be run individually and owned and operated by entrepreneurs, or they can be part of a large franchise, such as Olan Mills. One can also find photography studios open to the public at affordable prices at large department stores such as Sears or Kmart. There are also many individual photography studios tend to specialize in a certain area such as senior portraits. Each set caters specifically to the type of work the photographer does.
