Of course, this is just when the camera is not in use. Another option is to use a lens cap as well as a camera bag. The more protection you can have for your expensive equipment, the better. The lens caps with leashes help to prevent the loss of the cap by keeping the lens attached to the camera even when it is off the lens. The leash is attached to the camera on one end and the lens cap is on the other.

Although some lens caps can be interchangeable, there are several different manufacturers of lens caps. Canon is one of the most popular manufacturers of cameras and camera accessories. Canon lens caps are a bit more expensive than other brands or off brands, but they are still under $10. It might be worth it to pay the extra couple dollars to keep with the same brand name, if this is something that concerns you. Again, the people that work in camera stores are very knowledgeable about cameras and can help with any questions you might have in regards to cameras and their lens caps. You can also research online to see if the lens you have can be used with a lens cap that is interchangeable.
